











PREAMBLE
This code of conduct has been drawn up in the context of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the South African Schools Act, and reflects their principles and mission statement. This code of conduct applies to learners on the school premises, and also to those off the school premises who are in school uniform or who are associated with the school in any way.

CODE GOVERNING ABSENCE FROM CLASS AND FROM SCHOOL

1. Learner should not go to the toilet during teaching time. However, if an educator deems it necessary, learners may be allowed to go to the toilet, one at a time, with the educator’s permission. |
2. If a learner is sick, he/she must report to the relevant subject educator. This educator will send a letter to the front office. The Secretary will keep a sick room register and call parents if necessary. |
3. Early leaving. If a learner needs to leave school early, a letter from the parents/guardian, containing the reason and a contact telephone number must be given to the Standard Head during the early morning registration period. Learners are to be collected from the front office by the parents/guardian.
Doctor and dentist appointments are to be made in the afternoon where possible. If a learner is leaving school early in order to do his/her learner’s or drivers license, then the booking slip must be must be produced in addition to the letter. Bookings must not be made for days on which cycle tests or exams are written. |

These vehicles are parked in a particular area at the owner’s risk. No learner will be allowed to be inside their vehicle during school hours. | Parking permission withdrawn |

ROLE OF THE EDUCATOR
The educator has the responsibility, authority and discretion to enforce the code of conduct in order to create an atmosphere conducive to learning. Should a learner infringe the code of conduct, the educator will follow the set procedure in order to remediate the learner’s behaviour.

SIR PIERRE VAN RYNEVELD HIGH SCHOOL SCHOOL UNIFORM AND STANDARDS OF APPEARANCE
ALL learners are expected to wear the official School Uniform within ONE week of being enrolled at this school. Please note that where a learner is unable, for any valid reason whatsoever, to wear correct uniform, a note of explanation, addressed to the Standard Head is required. This letter must contain a date by which the problem must be fixed. It must be carried by the pupil and presented to teachers and prefects on request. Please remember we are judged by our appearance.
The choice of uniform worn is discretionary and based upon climatic conditions. Therefore, a learner can choose to wear either winter OR summer uniform on any given day. Formal winter uniform (blazer & tie) must be worn on all formal occasions; this applies to boys and girls. Uniform must be kept clean, neat and in good repair at all times. Worn and frayed item of uniform must be replaced. Please note that where buttons are replaced on garments, these must be similar size and colour to the originals. Shoes must be polished regularly.

Boys may not wear tapered trousers. These must be worn as they are purchased off-the-peg; The widths which will apply to all learners are those stipulated by the SABS: Sizes 64-70 cm waist; 21,6 cm width; Sizes 76-82 cm waist; 24 cm width; Sizes 84 adult waist; 25 cm width
GIRLS – WINTER UNIFORM
GIRLS – SUMMER UNIFORM
PREFECT’S UNIFORM
Prefects both boys and girls, wear blue ties as part of the winter uniform, and blue short sleeved shirts as part of the summer uniform.
JERSEYS, JACKETS, TEAM TOPS, TRACKSUITS
No jersey, nor a jacket of any kind, other than the official school jersey, blazer or dri – mac may be worn. Dri – mac hoods not to be worn in class. The official Team Top may be worn only with sporting kit and may not be worn in place of the royal blue jersey, blazer or dri – mac. School teams must wear either full school uniform to matches prior to changing into correct kit or the Team Top with the correct kit or the optional school tracksuit. If a learner is unable to dress correctly, a note from the parent must be produced.
No learner is to leave the grounds incorrectly dressed. After school hours, learners must not mix school uniform and sports gear or casual clothes; they should change out of uniform when they reach home. Royal blue scarves, gloves and school beanies (bought from the school stocklist only!) may be worn. Beanies are not be worn in class. Beanies are only to be worn in winter. Matrics may wear the white sleeveless pullover, available from the stockists.
WHETHER UNIFORM IS WORN IN OR OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL, IT SHALL BE COMPLETE. NO LEARNER MAY PLAY PINBALL OR SIMILAR GAMES IN PUBLIC, OR WORK IN A SHOP OR BUSINESS IN SCHOOL UNIFORM. BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS SHOULD ALWAYS APPEAR WELL GROOMED AND NO TRENDY HAIR STYLES OF ANY SORT ARE PERMISSABLE.

NB: LEARNERS ARE WARNED THAT WHERE THEY ARE IN BREACH OF THESE RULES THEY ARE LIABLE FOR THE COST OF RECTIFYING THE PROBLEM. DYED HAIR FOR EXAMPLE, WILL HAVE TO BE COLOURED TO THE NATURAL COLOUR.
